The Summer Kitchen is being restored into a single cottage style accommodation. The upstairs will be a bedroom and ensuite bath. Downstairs there will be a living/dining room with a small kitchen. Prior to the restoration, the upper level of the Summer Kitchen was known as Mother's Sewing Room.

The bedroom will look much as it does in these pictures. The main difference will be the sleeping arrangements. On paper, it looks like we will have room for a queen bed and two twin beds.

Phoebe Murdock loved to sew in the summer kitchen -- hence, we named the room "Mother's Sewing Room." (The Murdocks were the first family to own the farm.)

In our initial restoration/renovation in the 1990s, we raised the ceiling (not the roof, just the ceiling), added a bath and replaced the windows -- with older ones! The "original" windows were mismatched, in very bad shape and didn't let in much light. So we replaced them with windows from a 1790's brick home in nearby West Middletown (reputedly the first brick house west of the Alleghenies). They provide a wonderful view of the pasture.

Mother's Sewing Room (which will serve as the bedroom for the Summer Kitchen Cottage) is on the second floor and is tucked under the summer kitchen's tin roof, the walls are sponge painted blue. The room has an ensuite bath with clawfoot tub and shower.
